Infinity Nomenclature and Q45
다들 아시겠지만, 2012년 말에 인피니티에서는 새로운 모델 명명체계를 발표합니다.
일단 이전에는 대체 어떤 기준으로 명명했는지 한번에 파악하기 힘들었던 SUV라인이
QX로 정리된 점은 매우 바람직해 보입니다.
여기에 숫자가 50, 60, 70, 80으로 순차적으로 올라가서, 직관적으로 모델의 체급을 짐작할 수 있게 되었습니다.
(QX70과 60은 체급 면에서 약간의 논란이 있을 수도.)
하지만, 새 명명체계에서 M과 G로 나뉘어졌던 세단 라인업은 Q로 통일되었습니다.
M이나 G 세단의 명성이 그렇게 단번에 포기할 만한 것인가 싶긴 한데 말입니다.
하지만, 따지고 보면 어디서 갑자기 튀어나온 것이 아니라,
(한국 시장에서는 소개되지 않았지만)
세단은 Q45, SUV는 QX4, QX56 등의 선행 모델들의 명명 전통을 이어받았다고 볼 수 있겠습니다.

The need for a new identity and direction to promote consumer familiarity with our model range as we expand the portfolio became evident. To achieve this, we clearly needed a simple and consistent nomenclature framework. After exhaustive research and evaluation, we concluded that ‘Q’ captured the inspiration within the next generation of Infiniti models, as well as emphasizing our performance credentials while harking back to our heritage with the Q45 – Infiniti’s first iconic flagship product in 1989.” - Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti Motor Company Limited.
이 녀석이 1989년도에 나왔던 Q45로, 당시 렉서스 LS400 등과 라이벌전을 펼친 대형세단입니다.
현행 M 세단, 새 명명체계에서는 Q70 급에 해당되겠지요.
