이 차는 제가 소장을 안 했었네요.
오리지날보다는 아무래도 간지가 떨어져서 ...
(라고 쓰고 ... 프라모델 출시가 안 돼서~ 라고 읽는다)
전쟁이 끝나고, 민수용으로 전환해서 나온 제품입니다.
라인이 왠지 ... 해치백의 교과서라는 그 차종과 닮아 있습니다.
사실, 조상님이시죠.
이 차, 80년대를 주름잡던 홍콩 배우 주윤발이 밀키스 CF 에서
아마 이 차를 타고서 등대까지 갔었던가 ... 뭐 그런 장면이 기억나는군요.
몇 년 전에 거제도에 사는 어느 유럽 기술자가 이 차를 직접 수리해가며
모는 장면이 공중파 다큐멘타리인가 시사 프로그램인가에 나와서 반가웠더랬습니다.
(지금 생각해 보니 이 차인지, 오리지날 퀴벨바겐인지 가물가물하네요!)

역시나 소싯적에 소장하던 퀴벨바겐입니다.
퀴벨은 영어로는 버킷, 소위 바께스 라는 뜻이지요.
저는 이날 이때까지 그 바께스가
차 앞부분 모양이 바께스 같아서 붙여진 이름인 줄 알았는데,
그게 아니라 버킷시트가 달려서라는군요.
이상하다 ... 야들이 말하는 버킷시트가 설마 뭐 이런 ... ?
(사진은 퀴벨바겐의 적통을 이은 모 차량의 버킷시트입니다.)
내 소장품에는 저런 버킷시트 없었는디 ...
제조사에 교환 요청이라도 해야 하나요 ...
특히나 아래 사진의 전시품처럼 사막색으로 도장을 해줘야 제맛이죠.
마치 롬멜 장군과 함께 북아프리카를 누비는 듯한 간지 ... !!
Kubelwagen configured for North African on display at the Kruse "World War II Victory" Museum in Auburn, IN. The collection was relocated from the Victory in Europe Museum in Belgium after that facility closed.
As early as January of 1938, moves were afoot to produce a military version of the Beetle for the war that lie ominously ahead.
There were many, many prototypes, but eventually two main vehicles emerged as the war-time KdF-Wagens. They were the Kübelwagen (literally, "bucketcar", but actually an abbreviated version of Kübelsitzewagen, "bucket seated car") and the Schwimmwagen ("swim car").
The latter was an amphibious vehicle with a rear-mounted propeller for water navigation. Only 14,283 were produced. The Kübelwagen was much more plentiful and practical than the Schwimmwagen. It is an extremely austere, rugged automobile built simply for war-use.
About 50,000 were made. Survivng examples of both cars are scarce and very collectible. Production was from 1940-44 for the Kübel and 42-44 for the "Schwimmer".
